Belvedere Vienna

Belvedere is a palace built by Eugene of Savoie on the area he bought in 1693, just outside the inner city of Vienna at that time. He immediately started to build a nice park and with time nice buildings were constructed at both sides of the park. Today we know these buildings as the Upper and the lower Belvedere. Some similarities can be found between Belvedere and Versailles outside Paris, and that might be connected to the fact that one of the gardeners from Versailles came to help forming the Belvedere garden.

Currently Belvedere is used as a museum; Österreichische Galerie Belvedere. The complex has gone through a big renovating job, but now it is mostly finished and this is a place to drop by while you are in Vienna.
