Car rental in Austria

If you are coming to Austria and to Vienna, you might ask yourself the question if it is worth renting a car or not. We have good news to you, because Austrians drive in a very civilised way, meaning that it is not too scary to drive here. The highways are great and inside the big cities the traffic is also very nice, and easy to follow. If you go to Italy, or maybe do a Car Hire France, then you might experience that people blow their horns for nothing, they drive on red lights and it is simply scary to drive, at least if you are not used to that kind of traffic.

But, in Austria things are better and easier. People try to follow the rules, and if you do not follow them, then the cops willingly fine you. So, all in all, it is very safe to drive around in Austria and Vienna, but you should follow the rules. Most people coming to Austria arrive with their own car, or they come with a plane and arrive at Schwechat Airport. It is easy to travel with train or with a taxi from there to the city, but if you want to rent a car, that can also be arranged directly at the airport. There are several companies offering their services there, but in general it is advised to arrange with your car rental before arrival at the airport. Surf the net, use Google and look for information on companies offering car rentals at the airport in Vienna, and you will for sure found lots of sites offering such services. The good thing with lots of sites, is that you can look around, and make sure to find the one company giving you the best product, for the best price.

The airport in Vienna is by the way located 18km from Vienna, so if you were planning on walking the distance, you should rethink that, and maybe rent a car, or use public transportation instead.

Winter activities in Vienna and Austria

Many people who come to Austria, come to snowboard or other alpine sports. There are lots of alternative for those looking for nice skiing activities, and there are also companies in Austria who work especially with luxury ski holidays. But, if you come to Vienna and that is your final destination, you can most probably leave your skies at home, and rather prepare for a beautiful city with little snow, but cold temperature, at least in December, January and February.

But, even though it might be cold, it is still amazing to visit Vienna before Christmas, due to the Christmas Markets in town. These are some of the nicest available in all of Europe, and when visiting the market at the Rathausplatz you enjoy yourselves so much, that you in fact forget about snow and about skiing. This is even better! Here you can enjoy some real hot wine (Glühwein), buy some traditional Austrian Christmas market food and get souvenirs with you home.

If you come to Vienna later, in the end of January or start of February you can enjoy a beautiful ice skating rink at the same spot, in front of the City Hall at Rathausplatz. Here you can walk around with beautiful surroundings, grab something to eat, and they also have given the chance to walk along an ice skating track which is going between the trees at the square… absolutely amazing!

If you are still not satisfied, and still miss your skies, then you better go somewhere else. Among the most famous places in Austria for skiing you will find Alpbach, Kitzbuhel and Innsbruck. These cities have amazing tracks, nice accommodation opportunities and everything you need for a good winter holiday in Austria. So, what are you waiting for? Plan your winter holiday in Austria for next year already. Maybe you could start out in Vienna and then travel on to maybe Kitzbuhel for some skiing, and then return to Vienna afterwards, before flying home again?

Bryan Adams is getting older (he was born in 1959), but he is still going strong, and his old hits are still as fresh and good as they once were. The great stuff is that the Canadian superstar will come to Vienna on July 5th this year, and for those who like Salzburg better, he will come to this beauty of an Austrian city one day later, on July 6th. In Vienna Bryan Adams will perform in the amazing concert venue, Stadthalle. Lady GaGa Vienna 2012

It is less than two years since Lady Gaga came to Vienna and to Stadthalle to perform the last time. On November 11th in 2010 she rocked the stage and the crowd loved her, and now the crazy girl is returning to Vienna again. The concert venue will be the same as in 2010, the Stadthalle, so as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta enters the stage (that is her real name), more than 16,000 people will for sure be there to make sure there is an eccentric and fantastic atmosphere in the concert venue.

This concert will be a part of larger world tour Lady Gaga is on in 2012, and in Europe she will also visit cities such as London, Paris and Amsterdam besides Vienna. The singer which was born in 1985 has been a giant hit since her start in 2005 and now she is probably the most popular female singer on planet earth at the moment. She has sold more than 23 million albumbs and 64 million singles worldwide and she has also won several Grammy Awards and MTV awards.

Useful Vienna information

If you are planing on visiting Vienna in the near future, there are several things you should be aware of. When using low-cost airlines the tickets might become cheaper just before booking, or like for example with RyanAir they often get more and more expensive, the closer you get to your travel date. When coming to Vienna and looking for hotels there are normally no good late deals to get, as hotels normally get fully booked and if you book your hotel late, you might somewhere else than where you would want to stay. Therefore our advice is to book your hotel room, your airport transfer, your guided tour and whatever Vienna activity you are planing to enjoy as soon as possible, just to make sure you do not miss out on something that could be important for you!

There are of course the normal attractions and museums, where you do not need to book earlier, and there are no late deals or early booking discounts. If you are planing to visit the Museum of Fine Arts for example, simply walk to the Maria Teresien Platz, pay your enrance fee, and that’s it. The same is the fact if you would like to visit the Danube Tower or maybe the Wurstelprater for a ride with the Giant Ferris Wheel.

But, if it is one activity where you really need to book early to get a free seat, that is if you would like to pay a visit to the State Opera in Vienna. All performances are normally sold out, so you better book your tickets long time beforehand if you want to be among the lucky ones to enjoy a performance in this building and institution, a symbol of Vienna.
